In order to remove the plugin it basically comes down to removing the plugin from your specific browser (e.g. Internet Explorer (IE) or Firefox).   Remember, removing the plugin from IE or Firefox will NOT uninstall Skype from your computer — just the Skype browser plugin.

Note the directions below may differ slightly based on your browser version, but the idea is the same:

For Internet Explorer 8:

1. Head to Tools -> Manage Add-ons.

2. On the left side you should have “Toolbars and Extensions”  highlighted.  In the list on the right side you should see the Skype plugin listed.

3. Select the Skype plugin and hit the “Disable” button at the bottom right of the screen.

4.  Close the window. Then close and restart IE and phone numbers should no longer be underlined or linked.

For Internet Explorer 6

1. Head to Tools-> Manage Add-ons

2. Select the plugin and click the “Disable” button at the bottom left.

3. Click “OK” and restart Internet Explorer.

For Firefox:

1. Head to Tools-> Add-ons

2. Click on the Skype add-on and either select “Disable” or “Uninstall”.

Disabling the add-on simply turns it off  (you can always enable it later), while uninstalling it removes the add-on entirely.

So that covers how to remove the Skype link from phone numbers in your web browser.

1.  In the Tools menu select “Internet Options”.

2. In the window that appears, you will see your current home page listed.  In the example below it’s “www.cnn.com”.  To change the default home page, just type in the name of the new site you want to serve as the home page.  Make sure it’s in the format “http://www.somewebsite.com” (without the quotes).

Then hit “Apply” or “OK”.  You may need to restart Internet Explorer to see the change.

Remember — if your home page changed unexpectedly then this change may be the result of a virus, and simply changing the home page back will not solve the problem.  Be sure to do a thorough virus and malware evaluation of your computer  to get rid of any infections that may be present.

Then you click and it gives you the option to "allow blocked content".

When I first came across this error, I was trying out some new jquery and spry menus on my pages. Everything was fine in firefox and opera, but IE kept giving this error. I was about to give up, assuming that this was an incompatibility issue with IE and my javascript, and that I’d need to find another way to do what I was looking to do.

That is, of course, until I realized that this is a local error only. So while you are testing locally it’s ok to click on the “click to allow content” while you are testing, and you can rest assured that the error will NOT reappear when you upload the website to the internet.

That’s not to say that certain types of content (sometimes poorly written code) won’t legitimately cause this error, but at a first glance, getting this error doesn’t necessarily mean that your code is incompatible with IE. So allow the site to proceed locally, but if you have any doubts, be sure you do test the page in an online IE environment before you build your site around it. But for most normal content, this problem remains a local error only and will not affect your site once it’s online.
