How to Change the SSID for a Linksys Router

Changing the default SSID setting of Linksys for a Linksys Router is one of the basic steps to take in securing your wireless router.

To change the SSID:

1. Login to your router. If you haven’t changed your default password of admin see this post to learn how to change the default password.

Navigate to the Wireless tab and make sure you are in the Basic Wireless Settings Area (in the second-level menu) — see the top left of the image below.

2. In the Wireless Network Name (SSID): area, circled in yellow below, change the name to something other than linksys. Press the Save Settings button at the bottom of the screen.

Note that now when you go to login to your wireless network, the network will be listed under the name you selected above, and no longer listed as linksys.
